Understanding the planet through history, culture, cuisine, and experience has always been my passion.
It all started when I was an exchange student in Japan. A year in Japan is more than a long vacation where I learned the basics of the language, about the culture and to deal with challenges in a non-English speaking country.
After the exchange I decided to backpack just on my own, combining Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore and South Korea before heading home. I met wonderful people along the way and I became addicted to explore the world especially experience the local way of living.
My decision to do my internship abroad was quickly made and in 2003 when I went to Sydney where I worked for Amnesty International. In this half year I lived like an Ozzy, longing for Bondi Beach and having Friday drinks in the local pub.
I wanted to understand the world more taking every opportunity to travel till now. It became my addiction, passion and even a part of me. The way I travel is try to look beyond the regular to-do lists and seeking out-of-the way sights. I believe in this way I am able to build a better understanding of a place and its people like I experienced in Japan and Australia before. A local experience even for one day is a must!
My love for history is also part of my travel where I dive into the old and discover whenever its an old tavern, townhouse or museum.
In this blog my intention is to inspire with local, offbeat and culturally experiences. Providing you with tips or just my thoughts where I also point out some big attractions since it is not for nothing that many of these (perhaps overrated?) attractions are popular. Planet Dynamite is my world but a place where I hope you get inspired.
