Step into the world of Wall Street. The world of money and power, the New York Stock Exchange and big companies situated in this neighborhood. The area is fascinating to walk around in between the buildings and seeing people moving their way to work. Another thing which is quite fascinating is Fraunces Tavern. A historic building that dates back to 1719 which stands in the middle of the high skyscrapers.
I have seen some old “colonial” houses, castles and mansions during my travel and have to admit that Fraunces Tavern is not something special considering it’s structure or interior. Most of this style houses / museums is quite normal in Europe. Still it’s unique and fascinating to have a historical building standing in the middle of modern skyscrapers. Wonderfull how it managed to survive.
Before it served as a tavern it was a mansion to a New York prominent family and important place during the American Revolution. Nowadays it serves as a restaurant where you can dine in historic atmosphere. Above you find a museum where you feel like your back in the 18th century and read about the history of the building. Next to it the Porterhouse Pub offers some good beers, wines and other drinks plus speakeasy. Nice place after our visit to the 9/11 museum nearby.
