My hubby and I took the train from Nanu Oya to Ella. The same train can be taken from Kandy or Colombo. In roughly 3 hours we travelled through small villages, tea plantages and forests. Taking the 3rd class for Rs500 ( 3 euro) its perfectly fine and you can find a true local experience. Hang around open doors if you dare and enjoy the panoramic view even more closer.
Ella is a small village in the mountains with a true pleasant climate. It is truly a paradise and even more in combinations with the 98 Acres hotel. From the train station to the hotel the taxi or tuk tuk can be taken. This eco friendly hotel consists of a couple of huts in the middle of the tea plantations. Most of the materials used in the construction have been recycled so its even more interesting. Each villa hut has a stunning view over the tea plantations across the hills. From bed till shower till balcony and views from the restaurant, all the ingredients are there for an amazing stay.
In front of the hotel is a trial to Little Adams Peak. This walking trail to the peak is an easygoing climb. You get an amazing view of the area at the top and defently a must see in the area.
Another nice attraction is the Ravanna waterfall just 15 minutes by car or Tuk Tuk from the 98 Acres Hotel. The waterfall is a big attraction for both tourists and locals cooling down under the water. Freshly cut coconuts are available as refreshments.
